Unified service catalog for VMs, Kubernetes and multi-cloud resources.

Infrastructure as Code

Cloud Assembly for YAML-defined infrastructure plus Terraform provider support.

Multi-Tenancy

Sovereign isolation per tenant with quotas, policies and approvals.

VKS Supervisor Integration

Provision Kubernetes clusters and namespaces via the service catalog.

API-first

REST APIs for integration with CI/CD, ServiceNow and DevOps tooling.

Policy Governance

Leases, quotas, approvals and naming conventions enforced.

Introduction

What is VCF Automation?

VCF Automation is the self-service and orchestration layer of VCF 9. It provides end users (tenants, developers) with a service catalog and gives platform teams Infrastructure as Code tooling, all with enterprise governance.

Transition

Replacing Aria Automation

VCF Automation is the direct successor to Aria Automation (formerly vRealize Automation). But with significant changes: legacy automation pipelines from Aria Automation 8.x are not available in VCF Automation 9, projects must migrate to Cloud Assembly workflows.
  • Cloud Assembly (visual IaC) remains available
  • Service Broker for unified service catalog
  • Legacy pipelines must migrate to modern workflows
  • Native integration with VKS and NSX VPCs
Replacing Aria Automation
How it works

Self-Service IaaS Workflow

Developers or tenants request a resource via the Service Broker. Policies determine approvals and quotas. Cloud Assembly deploys the infrastructure (VMs, K8s namespaces, networks) onto VCF. Resources have leases for automatic cleanup.
  • Self-service: developer picks from catalog, gets infrastructure
  • Approval workflows for governance
  • Lease-based lifecycle (auto-cleanup)
  • Native VKS namespace provisioning

Why VCF Automation?

Developer Productivity

Self-service provisioning reduces ticket wait times from days to minutes.

Enterprise Governance

Quotas, approvals and leases keep cloud sprawl under control.

Multi-Cloud

Consistent provisioning for VCF, AWS, Azure and GCP.

Cost Control

Lease-based cleanup and quotas prevent hidden cloud costs.

VCF Automation Use Cases

Self-Service IaaS

Developer portal for fast provisioning of VMs and K8s namespaces.

DevOps Enablement

CI/CD pipelines with declarative infrastructure.

Multi-Tenant Platform

Shared VCF infrastructure with tenant isolation and governance.

Aria Automation Migration
